Long Island, New York is a very unique location. There are four counties on Long Island and they are Kings, Queens, Nassau and Suffolk. Kings County, better known as Brooklyn and Queens County are both boroughs of New York City. Those who live in Nassau County and Suffolk County are the ones who live "on the Island".
On Long Island there are only thirteen towns, three in Nassau and ten in Suffolk, two cities, both in Nassau (Long Beach and Glen Cove) and two Indian Reservations, which are both in Suffolk.
Most people don't mention the town they live in but consider themselves residents of a Village or Hamlet within the town. I grew up in the Town of Hempstead but all I knew was that I lived in Uniondale. The Uniondale High School teams play against teams from Baldwin, Bellmore, East Meadow, Freeport, Garden City, Hempstead (the village not the town) Levittown, Lynbrook, Merrick, Rockville Centre and Valley Stream amongst others. All of those other villages or hamlets are in the Town of Hempstead and the above list does not include all the incorporated areas just in the Town of Hempstead.
Now if you live on Long Island you, at some point may need a plumber. It may be for new construction with the installation of all that goes into a bathroom or kitchen in Great Neck, Manhasset or New Hyde Park, all of which are in the Town of North Hempstead. When homeowners want a change they call a plumber to renovate their kitchens and bathrooms in Bethpage, Hicksville, Massapequa, Plainview or Syosset, which is the Town of Oyster Bay.
In Suffolk County when there is a leak or backup a plumber from Babylon, Huntington, Brookhaven, Islip, Riverhead, Smithtown, Southampton or Southhold is there to repair any and all plumbing problems. The areas mentioned above are all Towns in Suffolk County.
Before hiring a plumber in The Hamptons or Bay Shore for a major plumbing problem or even anything that may seem as minor as a leaky faucet or stopped up toilet there are a few questions you should ask. You want to make sure the plumber is licensed and carries insurance. Ask the potential plumber how long they have been in business and if they have any references. If you get the questions answered to your satisfaction and if you take the time to check the references you will help insure that your Long Island Plumber will do a professional job in a quick and courteous manner. As a general rule-of-thumb, the more extensive and expensive the job, the more you want to make sure the Long Island plumber you hire is the right one for the job.
